Sustainability Practice

As a small business creating one-of-a-kind slow fashion pieces, sustainability is a diligent practice.

Social media has served as a host for a new age capitalism, quietly benefiting from our human need to belong. The way that we dress communicates our interests, social preferences, and personalities among many other things. Fast-fashion trends are created at an impossible rate, to keep us yearning for that which we already have. Madcat Creations was invoked with the intention to reinvigorate the radical belonging that we already carry-- a belonging to ourselves, to our home, and to a community that does not quiet self-expression when faced with the monotone trends of our time.

Operations:

Madcat Creations is run exclusively out of an 8 x 11 shed left on our off-grid property. It has been converted into a space for fabric storage, cutting, sewing, photography and all things creative. Our dye studio is housed in another multi-purpose shed on the property. There we have a washer/dryer combo that we got broken secondhand and fixed. This machine runs solely on freezing cold water that travels through water lines we dug and laid ourselves leading back to our cistern that we built and haul water from a nearby community well.

We take great pride in our work. Great consideration and effort is put into every stitch to make a quality product that lasts. We are available to make low cost repairs from wear and tear to help keep our pieces alive and cycling. Check out our Return and Repair Policy.

Low Impact Dyes:

We use only low impact, "eco-friendly", fiber reactive dyes and biodegradable soap. The plants still favor the ground that these dyes have touched!

  • Creates bright and rich colors that last a lifetime
  • Contain no heavy metals or other known toxic substances
  • Uses very little water
  • Absorption rate of at least 70%, creating less waste water

Material:

All of our upholstery and other synthetic material used for hats has been thrifted or scraps purchased from a local small upholstery business that has decided to close their doors.

All new material purchased is made from organic fibers only (with the exception of a small amount of spandex for practicality).

Love:

BUT, sustainability isn't just about materials. It is about creating pieces that change and evolve with us throughout all of our years and vast expressions. It is about loving how we feel in every piece generated by Madcat Creations.

Sustainability for me as a creator, is balance, energy management, and always creating from the heart.
